Opportunities to join the Webb group

Please contact Dr Mike Webb for further information if you are interested in joining the group.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

The nature of UK/European funding means that flexibly-funded PDRA positions are not generally available. Any specific opportunities will be advertised here, on the University website and on jobs.ac.uk. We are however happy to support applications from suitably qualified candidates for Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships and the Newton International Fellowship schemes. Mike will work with candidates to support them as they compose their application.

PhD positions

Funded PhD positions within the group are principally available through four distinct mechanisms: the BBSRC scheme run through the Faculty of Biological Sciences, the EPSRC Molecules to Product CDT, EPSRC-funded studentships awarded by the School of Chemistry and University Scholarships (the principal source of funding for international applicants).

Two different projects on the BBSRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership are available to work in the Webb group. One potential project (in collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Biological Sciences) relate to the biochemistry and chemistry of natural product biosynthesis. The second project (led by Dr Megan Wright in collaboration with Syngenta) is to use a chemical proteomics approach to understand fungicidal mode-of-action.

Understanind the dynamics of non-ribosomal peptide synthetases

Revealing the targets and mode of action of plant fungicides using chemical proteomic tools

The deadlines for application are in early January 2021.

Summer studentships

Undergraduates interested in a funded summer placement in the group should contact Mike in the first instance. There are numerous sources of such funding but applications to these are generally coordinated centrally through the School of Chemistry.
